Hiked yesterday in Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, FL, with Jay Knobel, a great old friend who I met in college decades ago. Hiked the green trail, part of the Florida Trail, over one sand hill after another, amid pine and yucca and stands of wildflowers.
We deviated from the trail after hiking for close to an hour and worked our way over to the Hobe Mountain Observation Tower, said to be the highest point in Florida south of Lake Okeechobee, all of 86 feet above sea level. Great views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway and, to the west, miles of lightly forested landscape. We hiked a bit under four miles, justifying, we agreed, a nice lunch nearby in Port Salerno.
