A Very Rare Bird in Farmington & Avon

At Farmington, CT
In what is thought to be only the 4th or 5th known appearance of the species ever in Connecticut, a pink-footed goose has been seen repeatedly in Farmington and Avon in recent days.

The goose, whose range ordinarily is eastern Greenland and northern Europe, is mixed in with a large flock of Canada geese that move back and forth along the Farmington River, Lake Dunning in Farmington, and the pond in Fisher Meadows park in Avon.
Birders from throughout the state and beyond got great looks at the bird Sunday afternoon from the Winding Trails recreation area on Lake Dunning. Its pink legs are distinctive. It was seen repeatedly again at Fisher Meadows pond today.
How it got here and why is a question of course, but it had to cross the North Atlantic, an arduous trip for any species
