Enjoy Before it is Gone

I’ve been saying for years that there is no bad year for fall foliage color in Connecticut. One year may be slightly better or worse than another, but, be assured, there will be brilliant color.
The concern this year was that, after months of dry weather, with some trees stressed, the foliage would be compromised. Clearly, I think a goodly number of trees indeed were affected by drought and some shed their leaves a little earlier than they otherwise might have. The brilliant color we expected from some of these trees in fact seemed not quite there, though not bad.
Having said that, all you needed to do today was explore central and northern Connecticut to see just how wonderful the color could be. There are still plenty enough trees that got just enough water to keep them happy. Red maples and sugar maples are ablaze with red, yellow and orange. Leaves of the birches and hickories show deep, rich yellows. Yeah, the poison ivy leaves look good, too. Maybe not a perfect foliage year, but, as always, just beautiful.
